Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of Nicholas Manning as chief operating officer (COO) and Wendy McClain as vice president of operations.

In his role as COO, Manning oversees day-to-day operations at EIRMC and directly leads several service lines, including EIRMC’s Behavioral Health Center, surgical services, cardiovascular services, medical imaging, and oncology.

Manning is a familiar face to many in our community, having served as EIRMC’s vice president of operations from 2017 to 2019.  During his tenure, he was instrumental in launching the Ronald McDonald Family Room at EIRMC, as well as EIRMC’s Burn Center.  He also oversaw EIRMC’s multi-year construction and renovation project that impacted the entire footprint of the hospital.

Most recently, Manning served as the chief operating officer at Rochester Regional Health’s Rochester General Hospital (RGH), a 528-bed tertiary referral center and teaching hospital in upstate New York.  He started a few months before the pandemic hit New York, and was instrumental in leading the hospital’s COVID-19 pandemic response, including surge planning, staffing contingency plans, ER expansion, OR throughput and contingency planning, and the logistics behind implementing the state of New York’s vaccine mandate for all healthcare professionals.  Additionally, Nick provided operational oversight for emergency services, hospitalist medicine, perioperative and endoscopy services, respiratory services, plant operations, environmental services, food and nutrition services, and several other ancillary departments.  He also oversaw with his team the opening of a $253M patient care tower, including a 7-story critical care addition, women’s and newborn suites, 20 operating rooms and 108 acuity-adaptable private inpatient beds.

On a personal note, Nicholas grew up in Utah and is excited to come back west and to return to Idaho Falls.  Nick and his partner, Will, both love the outdoors and the arts and look forward to enjoying all that our region has to offer.

Wendy McClain has been appointed vice president of operations.  In this role, she leads several departments, including Therapy Services, Respiratory Therapy, Environmental Services, and Food and Nutrition.

Wendy most recently was the VP of Business Development at EIRMC’s sister facility, West Valley Medical Center (WMVC), in Caldwell, Idaho.  She had oversight of the hospital’s strategic planning process and growth initiatives, as well as several ancillary departments.   Wendy excels in building programs from the ground up.  One such program is West Valley’s “Ortho Ethos” program – a “VIP” experience for spine and total joint patients.  Her ability to establish a vision, collaborate with providers and nursing, and lead the overall execution of the program resulted in significant volume growth in their spine and total-joint programs.

Wendy also served as the director of marketing at WVMC, and prior, at Kansas Medical Clinic, an independent physician-owned multi-specialty group.  She also has a background in pharmaceutical sales and worked for Eli Lilly and Company for nearly seven years.

On a personal note, Wendy is originally from Kansas but has been coming to Idaho to visit family all her life.  She has been married to her husband, Jim, for 25 years and they have two grown children, Katie and Tanner.  Wendy and Jim love to travel, whether it be a road trip to a great hiking spot or going to Kauai.  She loves the arts, including stage and screen productions.
